Interesting past week. Got the hitch mounted all the way down in the bed, made the trailer sit level while still having the Cody Cushion hitch, nice smooth ride.
Hitch lowered
Trip to Utah went well until past Cortez Colorado, at which point had a massive increase in blowby and felt...
Open up the air bleed on the FFM and turn the lift pump on. This will let you know that fuel is getting pushed through the filter. If it's just dribbling out, gonna be a clog or kink in the fuel lines.
As for the plumbing route, most decent or better lift pumps will draw fuel through 1 filter...
Drained roughly 2 quarts of water out of the fuel so far, New fuel system is certainly an upgrade. Having the water separator in an easy access location is nice.
Did a test fit regarding the trailer and the new bed which has the gooseneck at the top. As expected it's too high, not dangerously...
Decided to mount the winch just outside of the headache rack, weather permitting will have it mounted up this week.
Got a heavily water contaminated batch of fuel on my trip to Dallas 2 weeks ago. Between that and the leak prone stock filter I was motivated enough to upgrade the fuel system...
Mounted, lights wired up, fuel tank plumbed, and the boxes washed out of a few inches worth of dirt/sand. Rolling tailboard moves once again. Still need to cut into the headache rack to make room for the winch, it's too tight for it and the fuel tank without mods.
Sitting, got a welder coming Friday since my stuff can't handle that thick of metal. Going to have him do the mounts and maybe go ahead with the hitch change. Cut out the current gooseneck and mount the B&W recessed into the bed deep, so the air ride hitch can be used. The top of the ball would...
Gonna be headed back to Utah in August, have 3 semesters left to finish my bachelors degree and since I hurt my elbows last fall figure it's time to get away from physical labor jobs.
Sold the 1 ton and using some of the money to focus on the HD. Original turbo was worn out, even with the...
Agreed color can be off in pictures. It's the teal green color up top. Still undecided on bed plans but I have a feeling that a flatbed or utility bed of some type will be the better option for me. Truck will be used offroad and being a dually the bed rails will make contact with rocks/trees...
There are 2 primary PTO mounts, 6 bolt and the larger 8 bolt. The drive gear though varies per application and many pto models can have multiple drive gears installed.
Haven't looked into which ones for this tcase yet. Some of the current main pto manufacturers are Spicer, Muncie, and Chelsey.
Didn't know about the fuel system differences on this generation of tbi, always has to be something unique haha. From reading up it sounds like the stock fuel pump is maxed out with the 454 in stock form. Maybe upgrade to an external fuel pump/filter setup and add a second fuel tank to it.
Last...
Maybe down the road, currently don't want to put much money into the engine since there are other higher priorities. As is when it comes to torque it feels similar to the 6.5 in the HD before its turbo failure. Able to maintain the hill climbs here with the same amount of throttle. HD on...
Won't be towing as heavy as the HD gets and the build will focus on some offroad capabilities. Mild lift, up to 35" tires, rear locker for sure maybe front, armor.
Other than dusty the interior is in good condition, even the power seats still work.
While I prefer a diesel, a big block works...
Companion to the 95 3500HD, found this truck that covers the 3 main issues the HD has. 4x4, a back seat, and offroad traction. This truck can make it up my driveway without spinning the tires!!!
Say hello to this truck, 95 3500. 454 tbi, nv4500, 4x4. Original owner used it to haul a camper...
