Running Too Much Boost, And Blew A Head Gasket.

What a coincidence! I'm going to be flying into Ft Meyers Florida here in the next week or two, and driving an early 80's Cadillac back here to Texas. If those heads are indeed crack free, I'm sure we can work something out. I would try to make you a deal on the whole engine, but I'm afraid...

    My HX40 install

Wow Nate, I figured it was probably around 5k, not 5,700! Wow, she's heavy. Matt

Running Too Much Boost, And Blew A Head Gasket.

While my 1.5:1 drive pressure at 20+ boost WOT may not be ideal, I'm very happy with my turbo, and its a far cry better than my old GMX. For my gears, and weight, I think my turbo is perfect for my truck. In town, I can mash the throttle, and she rolles forward about 10 feet before the boost...

Running Too Much Boost, And Blew A Head Gasket.

The T turbo cups came out on the 6.5TD's before the Diamonds. The Diamonds are just a little bigger than the T cups, but I'm quite sure they're more than adequate. Yep, it would be nice if they'd wait until you give them permission to break. :D Nate, I remember thinking when I was reading...

Running Too Much Boost, And Blew A Head Gasket.

I'm unsure about my plan at the moment. Here is my problem. I don't have enough to buy new GM head. The best price I've seen so for OE, is Leroy, but they're $550 each, plus shipping. So thats a bare minimum of $1200. I have a completely new american made valvetrain for the 6.5 heads. Valves...

Running Too Much Boost, And Blew A Head Gasket.

Nate, I would say the sealant I used here recently (permatex The Right Stuff) is more like the stuff that came on your GEP. Originally I used Mega Black to seal my valve covers, and oil pan, but the drivers side valve cover started leaking, and I was told the Right Stuff works much better on our...

Running Too Much Boost, And Blew A Head Gasket.

Alright, the engine is apart. Each head has gained another crack. One of these heads is the original 1993 head that came with the truck. Its the one that had a half length crack when I installed it, and its no gained another half length crack. Its strange, this 93 head has a ridge in the casting...

Running Too Much Boost, And Blew A Head Gasket.

Yes, my housing did have a 10 stamped on it, but I own an HX35W with a 12cm housing, and my 40WII's turbine housing is every bit as big, and bigger on some of its demensions. Like you said though, its very hard to say with the CKO's. The HX35W is what I took the compressor side off of, and...

    A military rebuilt 6.5

I'm thinking it had water only for those coolant passages to be that crusty! But its nothing a good cleaning, and some new freeze plugs won't take care of. ;) I'm really quite green with envy. :D Matt

Running Too Much Boost, And Blew A Head Gasket.

You mean the stuff I just used on the drivers side valve cover? No doubt, I'll be having to straighten out the edges of my valve covers from all the bending thats going to be required to get them off! I was really happy with that repair, as it was nice, and dry! Oh well, I'll let you...

Thanks Nate, and I will. I started the teardown today. Pulled both exhaust manifold, and the intake. Here is a pic of today. Matt

Running Too Much Boost, And Blew A Head Gasket.

Thats what I said, and I'm hoping for the best, but trying to mentally prepair myself for the worst. My turbo is supposed to have a 14cm housing, but who knows. I did a video of my drive pressure awhile back, and posted it in my turbo thread, but I'll post it here as well. In the test, the...

Running Too Much Boost, And Blew A Head Gasket.

Well, I think the title says it all. I've been trying to dial in my new hopped up IP. I retarded the timing a little, turned up the fuel screw 1/4 turn, and was playing with different boost levels. I ran it a couple times at 30 psi peaks just to see if it made much difference. I didn't seem like...

    Reverse Hybrid Hx 35/40

I'll keep that in mind, as I just did the manual TCC mod to my truck because I have 3.42's, and when I'm towing heavy, its more ideal in 3rd, but on my truck, my TCC wouldn't lock in 3rd, just OD. The shifts are very strange if you leave the switch on accidentally.
  16. bowtiebutler956

    Added A Manual TCC Switch

Wow, OD at 27mph. Mine won't go into OD till 45, and at WOT it doesn't go into OD till 75. On mine, the TCC won't lock at all in manual 3rd, or 3rd in the OD position for that matter. Its funny, I can be cruising in OD with the TCC locked, and manually downshift to 3rd, and for a few seconds the...

Added a 3"F, 2"R Lift To My Truck

Yep, I like the color of your truck as well.:D I really like your dually best though. I'll get the shock boot straigtened out tomorrow. :) Matt

    A military rebuilt 6.5

Yep, you'd be in trouble if she knew that was on the web.:D My daughter is 13, and I'd never hear the end of it. The engine is sweet Nate. It seems pretty common to still be able to lightly see the crosshatch in the cylinder in these 6.5's, but that almost looks like it was done yesterday...

Added a 3"F, 2"R Lift To My Truck

I'm going to be upgrading to 285/75-16's pretty soon in place of my 265's, and I wanted to make sure I had plenty of clearance for them. I'm sure they would fit, but I wanted to have plenty of room, so I picked up an inexpensive Keys, and Blocks kit...

    A military rebuilt 6.5

I'm liking what I see! Even those nylon rocker buttons don't have that old dried out, brittle look to them. I realize you have roller rockers to put on it, but those appear to be in good shape. :) Matt
