Your such an encouragement WarWagon!:D I remember you putting those type of visuals in my head way back when I was assembling my engine that had a crack in the block. I can always count on you. :D
Matt
Just a quick update. My cheap "improved" heads should be here tomorrow according to Fedex, and I'll post lots of pics, whether they're good, bad, or ugly. I'm prepared to be disappointed.
My head studs from Leroy should be here tomorrow as well. Thanks Leroy.:)

I too am running a 97+ HO pump with a single stat, and my cooling system works very well. The single stats on our 6.5's are much larger than a standard stat, like the duals used in the later models. While the one large stat may not flow as much as two standard ones, its still a high volume stat...
Here is a thread that has the specs for it.

I wonder if using a +10 head gasket would make any difference? I'm certain I've read of other members using the 206 without issues. Maybe Delta ran into problems with a customer who had a block that had been decked, or heads that had been resurfaced.
Matt
Nate it's obvious you put some real time into your heads, and they should flow very well. I probably won't go quite as far as you did. I have several times in the past on my hotrods, but I don't believe I would see as much gain as I did on those NA engines. Although I'm sure there will be...
Very nice work your doing there Nate! I'll probably be doing a little porting myself here soon, as the pics of the China heads I just ordered look worse than the OE heads down in the pockets. Thats going to be one sweet 6.5, and I'm looking forward to the next update.:)
Matt
I just finished ordering the heads, so things are under way. I ordered bare heads, since I already have two complete cylinder head assembly kits. I'll probably use my T pre cups as well, since they're better quality. I'll get my studs from Leroy, and my +.010 Felpro's from Orielly's.
Matt
Well, Fermantor contacted me today, and said that upon closer inspection, both heads are indeed cracked, so it looks like I will be the Guinea Pig for the "improved" China castings. Thanks for checking them out for me Ferm. :)
Matt
I don't believe the heads can be properly repaired with the crack going through the valve seat, and continuing down into the bowl. Now Lock N Stitch makes some very nice inserts for the mains on our 6.5's, but the tooling is very expensive. I would really just like to get an Optimizer, but that...
Cleaned up the decks on the block today, and chased all the head bolt threads. I inspected the block closely, particularly in the area the gasket blew. It has very slight imperfections, but nothing like what the head had in the pics I posted earlier. Here are a couple pics.

That was a very frustrated sounding post Paul. :D I understand how life, and circumstances can interfere with projects. I still look forward to the updates when your weather gets better, and other things slow down some. I felt like quitting the other day when my truck blew a head gasket, and...
Yep, I have a complete set of 8 OEM T cups still in their boxes. :) See pic below.
Yes, it can be a fun job at times! :D
My current engine was a high mileage block that all I did was hone, new rings, rod bearings, timing chain (no gears), and gaskets. The block had one crack below one of the...
Nice work Nate. Personally, I like using the carbide cutters like your using there I think. Then I have a set of all different sizes, lengths, and grits of drum sanding rolls. They work amazing for smoothing, and polishing. I guess I never thought about spending much time porting on a 6.5, but...
No, its an 84 Caddy, so it will either have the HT4100, or the infamous Olds 5.7 diesel. Its not mine, so I don't have all the details. I'm picking it up for the people who's fleet I take care of. They're forever sending me all over the US picking stuff up. Cars, bus, equipment, you name it. I...
