Well I feel stupid. Here I was ready to blame the pump. Thankfully, its not the pump, rather its the gauge. I picked up an adapter to thread in place of the current mechanical gauge and it was pretty obvious as I was loosening up the gauge that was the issue. Its a glycerin filled gauge and...
Problem isn't the tank sock. I did some diagnostics on the system this morning and found that the pump is the issue.
The problem got worse yesterday afternoon. Drove to a friends house and when I got there popped the hood to find my fuel pressure was 0psig. The needle wasn't moving at all...
Well said above. If I where in your position, I would go to your GMC dealer and speak to them (particularly the service writer / manager) and talk to them about if adding an additional fuel filter in series to your fuel system (such as a nice big CAT, or Cummins FLEETGUARD fuel / water...
Well for starters my first question would be how long you plan on keeping this truck. If you think you are going to have this thing beyond the warranty period than I would say yes. If not, it may not necessarily be worth it, as the OEM goes through a great deal of trouble to make sure there...
War Wagon,
The weird part is. I'm not having any drivabillity issues. The truck runs down the road with almost no trouble at all, even in the higher RPMS and still pulls "hard" on the highway. So getting to you would probably be almost no trouble at all. I'm going to do some...
No worries, I saw on your website that everything will be down for all of September. I hope all is well. Actually if anything that will prevent me from buying the METRUM unit now and save some coin till I get back to the east coast. I figure I can drop the tank in about 2 weeks from this...
WarWagon. I got the fuel from the Chevron station at Rancho Santa Fe blvd and Dysart Road.
Pulling the cap off with the engine running doesn't make things any better or worse, and if you mash the pedal from idle the gauge drops down to 0psi and holds (so essentially a vacuum).
FERM. I was...
Something interesting I noticed this morning. After sitting all night I fired it up this morning and popped the hood. Fuel pressure was hoping around at 6-9psig. Drove to class as normal (2.5 miles) with roughly 10 minutes of idle time and popped the hood again. Sure enough, fuel...
Well, the good news is that my air conditioning finally works again as of today. Blows an ice cold 50*F out through the vents. The bad news is while under the hood checking everything I noticed on the gauge that my fuel pump outlet pressure was dangerously low. Normally it will float around...
That's some interesting info right there. I have friends that work for CAT and I was told that CAT no longer uses the 1-14" thread filters because none of the new machines use them. Actually, IIRC, they haven't used that since around 2000...
Maybe enough of us buy that thread style filter...
Your u-bolts are the only link between your leaf springs and your rear axle. They take a tremendous amount of tensile stress from acceleration, braking, and suspension flex. I'm sure there are folks that will say what you have is fine, but you can't go wrong installing the right ones. Give...
The electrical tape would drive me nuts. I think I'll wind up just soldering a small resistor inline with it to split the voltage in half. I drove home from class tonight and that light damn near almost blinded me. Gave the cab a bright blue glow and several times I could have swore I was...
Change the oil + filter and reprime the engine too. Fill the engine with about 5 quarts of oil, and put the other 2.5 quarts into one of those "bug Sprayers" (the ones you find in the lawn and garden aisle to fill with pesticides, then have to pump up). Replace the hose with one that you can...
Small update.
Wound up replacing the fuel / water separator filter around 100 miles ago. The original one that came with the filter head when I bought it started leaking around the O-ring. Not only was the o-ring not lubricated when I was still collecting parts, but whomever twisted the...
 nice fix on your part. No leaks hopefully? And thats interesting that the manual trans hits the crossover... I don't think I've heard anybody else mention having that issue... other than 3500GMc obviously lol
Well shoot I wish I had known all this before I ran on the dyno. Either way this is great info for the next time I ever do a dyno run with an auto. Plenty easier on a manual if you don't slip the clutch. I wonder if using one of those laptop controlled standalone trans controllers would allow...
Anybody here (probably Buddy), have the DYNOJET interactive program (.drf files) that lets you read your results? I have one on my laptop at home but the computer here at the school doesn't like stuff being downloaded on it, otherwise I'd put up the last 3 screen shots. I think the last 3...
It was a great time and everybody had alot of fun. Even had a little bit of a scare at the end of the dyno day as the truck wouldn't start. Thanks Tim (Turbine Doc) for giving a few pointers on where to start as far as diagnosing what caused this. Somehow it ended up being an ECM fuse... and...
I got my crossover from SS diesel supply and opted for the stainless steel version rather than allumanized(sp?). Its only another $20 more, and from Walt's Website you can also order new gaskets and studs. A bit more expensive obviously than just buying an eBay crossover, but nothing sucks...
