I might be crazy but i ain't dumb
almost 2 years ago. I lost a rocker arm button on my engine and it sent a push tube through the engine block and down to the oil pan. I parked it because of other things and finally decided to get back to it after I found a rust-free cab from an old State of Nebraska truck, a 2wd CCLB dually 6.5td. after assessing the frame of my truck I realized that it was far rustier then the two-wheel drive frame. I decided to cut the two frames apart and weld the front of the four-wheel drive to the rear section of the two-wheel drive. since I had to remove the cab to do the frame work, I decided to clean the frame up as best I could and coat it with rust encapsulator and then a coat of tractor enamel.
turns out the location of the transmission Cross member is different in a four-wheel drive than a two-wheel drive and the holes for the torsion bar crossmember were not there so I had to drill them. thankfully we have a Mag drill at work. made it very easy
while I'm doing all this work, I decided to upgrade the rear axle to an aam 10.5 from a GMT 800 to get the disc brakes.
The current state of the project is putting the frame back together and replacing all the brake lines with stainless lines from SS tube.
the next step is to strip the cab down and get it painted.
then I need to get my engine torn down and find out if it is completely junk or if I only need to replace a couple of the Pistons that were beat up by the push tube. I'm hoping the block is not wrecked otherwise I have a lot more work to do. I do have a spare block. I was somewhat hoping that the engine that was in the yellow truck was salvageable since it was a fairly fresh reman but there was a catastrophic failure with it due to a leaking injector I think and it broke the number one and number two connecting rods and sent them out to the oil pan
I'll add a bunch of pictures of the project so far
