After a couple of set backs during which I learned the driver's door was a respray of a white door...
Sanding and etching primer followed by a coat of 'regular' primer before spraying the red on the door's A pillar, top sill and part of the B post. I focused on top of the fender so a return trip...
Yeah, don't take lessons from me. I know what needs to be done but, lack the time spent to develop the talent to actually do a good job. All my stuff is definitely 10 and mostly 50 foot work. As BigT said to me this morning, "You love the rattle can but, fear the HVLP sprayer." Fair enough...
Playing around with some more 'area beautification" on the Red truck before turning it over on Saturday.
Decided to address the faded tail light lenses. 1500, 2000 and 3000 grit wet sanding first then two coats of 3M Headlight Restoration resin. I purchased a 50 pack on sale of just the packets...
Opted to putter on the red truck. Headlights and turn signal buckets are yellow so, instead of working them over with a restore kit, I pulled a set off the spares pile I accumulated chasing the best set for the LED's. Owner is running HID low beams and Sylvania Highs anyway and I was using the...
Hang in there and feel better. Good luck with the PVC hose. The stuff I ordered from McMaster Carr for the return lines should be here today. Can't decide if I should stop puttering work on the Red GMC or shift over and remove the turbo and prep for the new lines so that monkey is off the...
Just ordered the return line hose Heath used to use in the kits they sold.
McMaster Carr part# 5119k79 (1/8" ID, 1/4 OD 1/16"Thick) Black, Brown or Green. $4.80 per foot plus Tax, S&H.
I got the Green so I can see things in dark places.
Side note, A friend of mine outside Grand Junction...
Return line between injectors 5 & 7 turns out to be junk. 25 miles from home and the truck gave itself a diesel bath. Called AAA and they gave it a piggy-back ride home because I wasn't going to mess with it in the gathering darkness while the motor was still hot and I don't have tools etc...
Got up early and knocked out the driver's side injectors, reinstalled the air cleaner and double checked the down pipe to turbo joining. Started easily enough with a slight cough as the air purged and everything steadied out. The wife listened and shown a light on the downpipe/turbo connection...
I'm good with what I got. FWIW, Link in the banner returns as 'unsecure' with Google and Windows Edge so I can't see anything there. Safari says it can't connect either. I did find a picture of an intake set up on the TSP Facebook page. Is this what you're referring too?
I apricate the pointers. Never experienced the turbo nut loss before. Friend of mine did when he owned this motor 12 years ago but, since I've owned the truck, which is going on 20 years, not once. Not with the original and not with this one... until now.
I'm using these serated nuts this time...
On reinspection of the pictures I uploaded, I can see the two gaskets. Just weird. I honestly don't think I was the one who put on a second gasket since the turbo was taken off when another was doing some work for me when I was unable. Long story.
FWIW, I used a die grinder with a...
Replacing injectors and let’s just say, I’m having to take it a lot slower these days than in the past. Fortunately, I have the time. I guess it’s a good thing I decided to do them because I discovered that two turbo nuts were AWOL and the two outside nuts came off way too easy to my memory of...
Forgot to add:
The advantage of the pig-tail units is that once the bulb is locked in, it can be rotated 360 degrees in the headlight bucket. Helps you set the optimal beam pattern regardless of using projector or reflector housings.
