I went to the junkyard for some treasure hunting today and that enabled me to get a picture of it in the open and in the light. I’m still tempted to lift it a little, but I think I’ll just leave good enough alone and leave it stock height for now and just refresh the front end with stock...
I'm hoping to make some improvements to it this year that improve the looks of it. I need to paint the bottom of that door so it matches. I might also do some rust repair to the rockers and quarters - but my worry there is that if I start down that path..........well, we've seen what happens...
D’oh!! I totally forgot what I did to get to this point!!
I didn’t want to just slap the tires on the stained and corroding wheels, so some dressing up was in order.
First, I sandblasted the wheels. After that I cleaned them with KBS Klean.
Then I sprayed a coat of epoxy primer on them...
Tahoe needed tires, so tires it got. I went up to 285/75/16. Even though they’re 3” taller than the 265/70/16s I took offf, they don’t rub at all.
Next up I need to rebuild the front suspension. I’m going to decide in the meantime if I should do a small 1” or so lift or not.
I emailed Leroy in July when I needed one and he has extra stock of both the reluctors and the keys. It was a couple days before he got back to me and in the meantime I had decided to see what I could do myself and was happy with the results. I needed them because my gearset was from...
I just cut a piece of key down, cut the reluctor off a bottom timing gear and found there was enough engagement in the lower gear and the balancer to hold the keyway for the reluctor. I was going to weld it into a single piece, but once I trial fit it I was satisfied with how well it was...
It's the P terminal on the alternator that runs the tach. I'll only be running the tach off of one alternator, not both, so I won't be crossing the streams like in Ghostbusters.
Yes, diesel trucks use the alternator to run the tach, so you have to have the correct pulley on the alternator so the RPMs run correctly. I bought the correct pulleys for the alternators. I could have only bought the correct pulley for the main alternator, but chose to get it for both...
Hmmm..... I'm not sure that's rectifying in my brain (pun maybe intended), at least the amperage part. I doubt 2 production alternators on a dual alternator setup are capable of outputting the exact same amperage, not to mention if one fails and gets replaced with an aftermarket replacement...
Finally have the accessory drive figured out. I tried a few belt sizes to figure out the length that would work with my unique setup. What’s unique is I have 2 AD244 alternators, I have the pulleys to get the alternator RPM correct for the 1994 tach and I have the AC compressor spaced up 6mm so...
I injured my ankle so I haven’t been able to get anything done for a bit, but today I was finally able to get back out to the barn. I got the fender vent sheet metal welded into the driver side fender. I’m happy with how it turned out.
