After high school, I went to American Diesel and Automotive College. Got a masters in the field. Kind of a waste of time, because I learned more in the first three months turning wrenches then the whole two years I was there.
My first job was at a Caterpillar dealer working on heavy equipment. As fun as it was, it didn't work out. So I worked on fleet trucks for several years. I learned a lot doing that, but it's very limited. So I landed a job at the Kenworth dealer in Colorado Springs, until the bottom of the market fell out in 08. Getting a job behind a wrench was damned near impossible, so I opted for the steering wheel. Drove for Central Refrigerated for five years, starving to death. JB Hunt called me up one day, and I just celebrated a million safe miles and nine years there. Six years ago, I bought a house with a huge shop. Now, when I'm not keeping it between the ditches, I'm getting dirty and greasy in my palace.
