I received this from a friend. He told me that it is a GM transmission. I do not know which vehicle it goes to. Came someone tell me if this is a NV4500 and an approximate year and vehicle it came in. I can't get parts for it until its identified. It says on the ID plate that it is a NP4500. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Appears to be the early 92-95 style due to the internal slave cylinder and cast iron rear housing. Also it is from a medium duty series truck since it has the parking brake on the rear of it. Most likely it has the rare 6.34:1 1st gear in it as well which could make finding parts tough depending on what you need.

I know exactily what it is.

It's a 2nd generation NV4500, 96+ with the 5.61:1 first gear, from a medium duty truck.

- internal slave cylinder was used in 96+ (92-95 units used the external slave)
- bolt on shift tower used in 95+ (92-94 used a bottleneck style)
- 2wd, cast tailshaft and driveline brake means it was in a 3500HD

If it was a an early model with the lower first gear, it would have the bottleneck shifter like mine, and the external slave cylinder.

How to easily ID a NV4500
92-94 had a bottle neck shifter with external slave, with a 6.34:1 first gear.
95 has a bolt on shift tower and external slave, with a 5.61:1 first gear.
96+ had was the same as a 95, but with an internal slave.

I just saw this thread. david is correct, it is a 3500HD trans, as they had the rear drum park brake on the tailshaft. 96-02 C3500HD is what it was pulled from. do you have plans, or is it for sale?

also, for parts, quad4x4.com has parts for the NV4500, including new takeout stuff, as they junked quite a few transmissions for parts.
